Welcome to the Green Capital webpages
The Bristol Partnership has launched a new initiative to encourage all organisations in the city to take action to help make the city a leading UK green capital: a low carbon city with a high quality of life.
Bristol already has a reputation as a green capital based on the quality of our open space, the commitment of residents to greener lifestyles and the expertise of many organisations based here. But we all need to do more if we are to support a transformational shift in our communities and our economy towards a low carbon future.
Join us, the city's major strategic partnership, in pledging your organisation's support to achieve our ambition of making Bristol a leading green capital.
Read on to learn about the green capital agenda and how you can pledge your support. For an explanation of the scheme and to learn about the benefits package we can offer organisations who sign the pledge, click here. Alternatively, please contact the programme co-ordinator on 0117 922 4159.
The Green Capital challenge
The Bristol Partnership has set an ambitious agenda for the city including:
- creating a high-quality, clean and attractive built and natural environment
- tackling the causes of climate change
- supporting the creation of balanced and sustainable communities within Bristol
- co-ordinating opportunities through the region's projected growth and local regeneration priorities
These priorities are set out in the Community Strategy for Bristol 2006-26. There are a number of supporting strategies and plans relating to green capital areas - transport, energy, waste, greener commerce, food and biodiversity. Our goal is to ensure the sum of these strategies and plans secures Bristol's future as a sustainable city-region.
The target we have set for reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is a 60% reduction by 2050 (against a 2000 baseline). We need you to help us accelerate progress towards this target.
Leading change, reporting progress
Our commitment to you in driving this initiative is to encourage, support and promote organisations taking action to manage their carbon emissions and to integrate sustainability concerns into their operations. Initially, we will do this through:
1) Guidance on the sort of action plan you may want to develop.
2) Signposting you to information and advice services to help you access relevant support that could deliver a range of benefits such as resource efficiencies and cost savings.
3) Providing information on training courses and events designed to share learning and good practice.
4) Co-ordinating a series of Green Capital Business Champion events to share good practice within industry sectors and inspire others to show leadership on this agenda.
Pledge now!
We invite all organisations across the city to join us in pledging action, and there are many ways that people can contribute to this broad agenda.
By pledging your support, you are committing to:
1. Produce an action plan
2. Work with others to make a difference
3. Publicly report your progress through the Bristol Partnership
