Comprehemsive Area Assessment

How does CAA work?

There are two parts to the CAA. Bristol will be judged as an area (the city), and the major public agencies ( the council, NHS Bristol, the Police and the Fire and Rescue Service) will be judged as organisations. Instead of a formal 'one off ' inspection, Bristol will have an ongoing dialogue with the Audit Commission. We have provided evidence about:

  • understanding what is important to our local communities and citizens how well we are delivering our services, and

  • our plans to deliver improvement consistently in the future.

The starting point is the priorities agreed by the Bristol Partnership. We have been reviewing and updating these for the period 2009-2019. The Audit Commission wants to see how well we perform against the national indicators, and our top priority indicators, as set out in our Local Area Agreement ( 2008-11) This process started in March '09.

The Audit Commission will publish its findings on 10th December 2009.This information will be available on this website, and on the Audit Commission website. From there on in, the task will be to agree plans for areas identified as needing improvement, and congratulating partners on areas which have been recognised as delivering good outcomes.
