State of the Neighbourhoods
State of the Neighbourhoods (SON) is a database developed to support the delivery of regeneration in Bristol.
**NEW INSTANT ATLAS DATA**
The database now includes 'map-based' datasets for Crime, Economy and Education. These map-based datasets can be found under the relevant theme titles on the left hand navigation bar. The datasets can be viewed at either Ward or LSOA level geographies. There is also the new added feature of the aggregated Excel spreadsheets being available to download directly.
What is SON?
SON is a collection of neighbourhood-level datasets relating to the Community Strategy priorities of:
- A Thriving Economy
- Learning and Achievement
- Health and Wellbeing
- A High Quality Environment
- Balanced & Sustainable Communities
SON supports the Neighbourhood Renewal and Neighbourhood Management Outcomes Framework. It reflects the priorities of the more deprived areas of Bristol, and supports activity aimed at narrowing the gap between these areas and the rest of the city.
The data in SON is presented in Microsoft Excel tables. If you do not have Excel on your computer, or are unsure how to use it, please contact us. We will be able to provide you with paper copies and/or help you use the tables.
Why is SON useful?
SON provides evidence and information of a small geographical area level, and for equality groups in those areas, which can:
- Show the gap between deprived areas and the rest of Bristol in terms of performance towards Community Strategy priorities
- Measure progress towards 'narrowing the gap' and creating a more equal city
- Help organisations and groups to influence service delivery in their area
- Provide data to help evaluate what makes a difference and what doesn't
Partnership Working
SON has been made possible due to the on-going commitment of partners to supply the data at neighbourhood level.
We would like to thank Avon & Somerset Police, Bristol Primary Care Trust, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership, Learning & Skills Council and Bristol City Council departments including Children & Young People's Services, Youth Offending Team, Anti-social Behaviour Team, the Road Safety Team and all who continue to support SON.
For their technical expertise we would also like to thank Bristol City Council's GIS Support, Quality of Life and Planning, Transport & Sustainable Development (PT&SD) Strategic City Wide teams.
SON is updated every November and May.
