Prosperous and Ambitious Board
In 2005 Bristol's prosperity was 28% above the national average (GVA). This places us 34th in Europe. A focus on creative industries, engineering as well as banking and finance and the nearby Port continues to make Bristol's economy the engine of the South West. However, our aspiration is to ensure Bristol's prosperity is sustainable, and that we become a world leader in "green" technology.
Connectivity: Putting in place world class digital infrastructure.
CO2: We have committed to meet the targets set out in the Climate Change Act. We are therefore currently committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 34% relative to 1990 levels by 2020 (21% relative to 2005) and to develop 5-yearly targets to the year 2050.
Urban Environment: Wherever and whenever possible, we need to make sure newly built or redeveloped areas of the city meet the highest standards of urban design and green technology.
Creativity: Our long term vision is to promote a top-class creative industry that provides the ideas and innovation to be world leaders, for example in areas such a green technology. This means our schools must promote creative arts and culture as well as maths, languages and sciences and we must make the best use of our colleges and Universities.

Creative, Innovative and Unorthodox
Culture & Creativity The feature that sets us apart from elsewhere in the UK and Europe is our unorthodox approach. Its what gives us our ability to innovate; to create technological, scientific, economic and artistic value. If we emphasise the links from culture and creative-thought into our education, economic and service systems we can measurably enhance this value and in turn use it to address our challenges.
