Crime data
SON Crime Data
Map-Based Data: April 2008 onwards
**New Crime data!**
The offence types given in the following two maps are based on The Home Office Counting Rules, which provide a national standard for the recording and counting of notifiable offences recorded by police forces in England and Wales (known as ’recorded crime’).
Recording procedures were altered in April 2008, such that the number of offence categories reduced from ten to nine major offence types. Definitions of categories also altered slightly, such that the annual data given prior to April 2008 is not comparable with data published on SON from April 2008 onwards. From April 2008 onwards, data will be recorded in two-monthly brackets, under the nine offence types as outlined within the "Browse indicators" tab of the following two maps.
